Farhat Akbar
Farhat is a specialist family solicitor advising on all aspects of family law. She is an accredited member of the Law Society Family Law Advanced Panel, and a member of Resolution. She is a Resolution trained Collaborative lawyer and Resolution trained Mediator.
Farhat qualified as a solicitor in 1998 and has twenty years of experience in family law. She has dealt with a broad range of family law issues: divorce, civil partnership disputes and separation, financial disputes between married couples, disputes between parents over children’s issues, financial disputes between cohabitants, pre-nuptial and post-separation agreements, and protection for victims of domestic abuse.
Farhat enjoys travelling, swimming and yoga in her spare time. She also enjoys being involved in various community projects.
Expertise
A notable area of her expertise is advising on financial settlements where the matrimonial assets include business and pension assets or where property assets have been transferred to third parties, requiring these dispositions to be set aside to ensure a fair settlement for both parties.
Experience
Farhat has undertaken many high-profile cases in the High Court, Family Division, concerning wardship, tracing a child’s whereabouts, child abduction to countries which are members of the Hague Convention and child abduction to non-Hague Convention countries. She has conducted complex cases for financial remedies between married couples in medium to high net worth cases, and represented the wife in the Court of Appeal in the reported case of Kaur –v- Matharu [2010] EWCA Civ 930.
